Patio de Armas
Traspasando la tercera puerta entramos al patio de armas. Este es el corazón del Castillo, ya que es el único punto por donde se podía acceder a las dependencias interiores. Es por ello que estaba celosamente protegido. El enemigo, atrapado en este reducido espacio, se enfrenta primeramente a una pequeña pieza de artillería frente a la puerta, situada en la tronera de cerradura invertida. Así mismo, los vanos de las estancias superiores, además de la cubierta, actuaban a modo de jareta desde donde se arrojaban piedras, granadas u otros artefactos . En este patio destacamos también, por su especial interés, la fachada norte de la antigua Torre de Alonso Fajardo y la fachada oeste de la nueva Fortaleza.
Parade Ground
By going through the third gate we enter the parade ground. This is the heart of the Castle, since it is the only point that provides access to the inner chambers. This is the reason why it was jealously protected. The enemy, trapped in this small space, first faced a small piece of artillery opposite the gate, situated behind the inverted keyhole embrasure. Likewise, the openings in the upper levels, as well as the roof, served as a vantage point from which the soldiers could throw rocks, grenades or other objects. In the parade ground area, we might also highlight the north façade of the former Tower of Alonso Fajardo and the west façade of the new Fortress, both of special interest.
